NWT Tourism Spectacular Secrets Contest
Contest Dates: January 18, 2017 – April 9, 2017
The Sponsor of this contest is: NWT Tourism in collaboration with Air Canada. The contest prizes include 150 opportunities to visit the NWT of which 140 will be single round-trip airline tickets to Yellowknife, NWT from select Canadian cities and 5 will be Super Prize Packages offering a trip for two including airfare, accommodations and a spectacular tourism experience in one of five regions of the NWT.
No purchase or payment is necessary to enter or win in the NWT Tourism Spectacular Secrets Contest (“The contest”). The contest runs from 12: 01 am January 18, 2017 Mountain Standard Time (“MST”) through 11:59 pm MST, April 9, 2017. Any entries received after 11:59 pm MST, April 9, 2017 will not be considered valid. All applicable provincial, territorial, and local laws and regulations apply.
How to Enter: There are six ways to enter the contest:
- Enter by completing the online entry form available on the Spectacular NWT website at www.nwtsecrets.com;
- Visit the NWT Tourism booth at pre-selected consumer shows across Canada between January 23, 2017 and April 9, 2017 and request your NWT Tourism Spectacular Secrets Contest chance to win item while they last. Consumer shows include the: Toronto Outdoor Adventure Show-February 24-26, 2017, Vancouver Outdoor Adventure Show–March 4-5, 2017, Toronto Sportsman Show – March 15-19, 2017, and the Calgary Outdoor Adventure Show- March 25-26, 2017;
- Enter to win on the www.nwtsecrets.com website and then “share” contest secrets on conventional social media platforms including Facebook and Twitter. Shares will provide additional chances to win single return air passes;
- Visit participating restaurants in Toronto and Vancouver between January 18, 2017 and April 9, 2017, and receive one of a limited number of Secrets Folders with instructions on how to redeem a qualifying Gold Ticket;
- A limited number of Secrets Folders will be distributed by contest representatives driving a specially decaled NWT Tourism Spectacular Secrets Contest vehicle making pre-determined stops throughout downtown Vancouver and surrounding area between January 18, 2017 and April 9, 2017;
- A limited number of Secrets Folders will be distributed by contest representatives on the Lakeshore GoTransit route in the Toronto area between January 18, 2017 and April 9, 2017.
Web Entries: Fill out a Contest web entry form at www.nwtsecrets.com One entry per person, per email address. Web entries will be deemed made by the authorized account holder of the e-mail address submitted at the time of entry. The authorized account holder is the natural person who is assigned to the e-mail address by an Internet Service Provider, online service provider, or other organization that is responsible for assigning e-mail addresses or the domain associated with the submitted e-mail address. All entries and requests become the property of the Sponsor and will not be returned or acknowledged. Automated entries are prohibited, and any use of automated devices will result in disqualification. A total of 70 web winners will be selected from all web entries received throughout the designated contest dates and times.

Chances of Winning: Approximately 30,000 Secrets Folders will be printed and distributed. Each Folder will include “Secret” reasons to travel to the Northwest Territories, and will include the address of the Secrets Contest page www.nwtsecrets.com on the Spectacular NWT website, where participants can enter to win.
Seventy-five Secrets Folders will include a “Gold” Ticket. Gold Tickets must be confirmed as winning tickets through a process of validation with NWT Tourism prior to the prize code being issued to the winner by NWT Tourism to redeem from Air Canada.
Chances of winning an instant Gold Ticket are 75:30,000 or 1 out of 400.
Chances of winning a NWT Tourism Spectacular Secrets online prize are directly proportionate to the number of web entries received. Sixty-five prizes will be drawn by random selection from all completed and valid online entries.
Facsimile: Hand drawn and mechanically produced gold tickets will not be accepted as a valid Gold Ticket Boarding Pass.
Prize(s): There are 150 prizes to be awarded in this contest.
Of the 150 prizes, 140 consist of a single round-trip Economy class ticket to Yellowknife, Northwest Territories from a pre-selected Canadian city. Pre-selected cities include: Halifax, Toronto, Ottawa, Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver. Canadian retail value of each ticket varies with the city of embarkation.
Instructions on how to validate a Secrets Gold Ticket will be provided on the back of the tickets and on the NWT Tourism Spectacular Secrets Contest web page (www.nwtsecrets.com).
It is the responsibility of Gold Ticket holders to validate their win by contacting NWT Tourism at 1-800-661-0788 to confirm their Gold Ticket number. NWT Tourism will provide each validated winning Gold Ticket holder with a unique code which the winner can then use to book their single roundtrip Air Canada ticket from any one of the contests pre-selected Canadian cities. Winners must have a NWT Tourism Spectacular Secrets pre-approved code in order to activate their winning ticket airline reservations with Air Canada.
Five Super Prize Packages will be awarded. Each Super Prize Package includes a trip for two to one of the five regions of the NWT from one of the pre-selected cities of: Halifax, Toronto, Ottawa, Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver. Airfare to and from the closest participating airport in each region from Yellowknife and accommodations as outlined in each of the five Super Prize Packages is included, along with a spectacular tourism experience unique to that particular region. Super Prize Package winners are responsible for any reservation related change fees associated with winner requested booking date adjustments after the confirmation dates have been given to Touch the Arctic Tours. The Super Prize Packages will be arranged on behalf of NWT Tourism by Touch the Arctic Tours directly with the winners.
A representative from NWT Tourism will randomly select online winning airline ticket entries received at www.nwtsecrets.com during the applicable contest dates, as follows:

All online qualifying winners selected during the February 21, March 21, and April 10, 2017 draws will be contacted at the same E-mail address that the qualifying winners provided to the sponsors by way of the contest website in order to confirm their win. The Confirmation-of-Win letter will also include a unique Air Canada prize code to book at aircanada.com. NWT Tourism will attempt to contact all qualifying winners within 24 hours of each website draw date. The Confirmation-of-Win letter will be transmitted to the winners by the same email as provided to the contest sponsors.
All instant qualifying Gold Tickets (see approximate distribution of qualifying tickets per event type below) are required to confirm validation of their ticket with NWT Tourism by April 30, 2017 and, the qualifying participant must first correctly answer, without assistance of any kind, a time-limited, mathematical skill-testing question, before being officially declared a winner.

Any difference between the estimated retail value and the actual value will not be awarded.
Trip Travel Dates: Round trip single airline tickets to Yellowknife, Northwest Territories must be redeemed with Air Canada no later than December 1, 2017. Valid travel dates for the prizes awarded by NWT Tourism and redeemed with Air Canada are March 1, 2017 to December 16, 2017, with the exception of a travel blackout period from April 13 – April 18, 2017. No trips can be booked for travel to take place during the blackout period.
Confirmation of Air Canada single ticket and Super Prize Package bookings is based on availability. Single ticket trips must be reserved a minimum of two weeks in advance of travel date with Air Canada and no later than December 1, 2017.
Single ticket contest winners are responsible to make, coordinate and pay for travel arrangements to and from the closest participating airport in the contest pre-selected city nearest to them. Contest winners are responsible for making, coordinating and paying for travel, meals, hotels, and events while in NWT.
The single ticket prize is a round trip Economy class plane ticket only, and is subject to availability based on Tango fare availability. Certain restrictions apply.
Winners of the five Super Prize Packages will be required to complete their winning travel experience no later than March 31, 2018. Some blackout periods may apply. All Super Prize Packages and air travel will comply with the Air Canada single ticket contest winner rules, Terms and Conditions as outlined in the Contest Rules document with the exception of valid travel end dates. Some additional blackout periods may apply depending on airline, hotel, and optional tour availability. All Spectacular Tourism Experiences awarded in the Super Prize Packages are subject to availability and seasonality in each region and may be substituted for a tour of equal value at the discretion of Touch the Arctic Tours.
Terms and Conditions:
Winner must be a legal resident of Canada and must have reached the age of majority in their province or territory of residence prior to January 23, 2017. Contest is not valid in Quebec. Residents of the Northwest Territories are not eligible to win prizes, but are encouraged to participate in promoting the contest on social media as ambassadors for the NWT;
Winner must not be an employee, a representative, or an agent of NWT Tourism or Air Canada and their subsidiaries and affiliates, media partners, advertising and promotional agencies;
Winner must not be a member of the immediate family (parents, children, siblings and spouse, regardless of where they are domiciled) of any of the aforementioned, and persons with whom any of the aforementioned are domiciled;
Travel is permitted only on the regularly scheduled flights operated by Air Canada, Air Canada Rouge and Air Canada Express carriers (not valid on Star Alliance partners or code sharing carriers);
Super Prize Package and Single Ticket winners agree to permit the sponsors to publish individual winner names and the winner’s current province or territory of residence.
Single ticket winner travel is valid until December 16, 2017 and is subject to space availability at time of booking;
Super Prize Package winners travel is valid until March 31, 2018 and is subject to space availability at time of booking. All Super Prize Packages are awarded as trips for two, based on double occupancy and cannot be taken separately. Please allow a minimum of 30-days advance booking on all Packages.
Travel blackouts apply; travel is not permitted April 13, 2017 to April 18, 2017;
No changes permitted to reservations once date of travel is confirmed;
Travel does not qualify for Aeroplan mileage accumulation or for mileage accumulation in any other frequent flyer program;
All applicable fees (such as airport/departure taxes, security charges or third party fees, taxes or charges) are included;
Prizes cannot be sold, converted into cash, are non-transferable and will not be refunded if unused. Prize must be accepted as awarded and no substitutions, changes or extensions are permitted;
The use of upgrade certificates is not permitted for flights;
Promotional pass recipients may be held liable to Air Canada for failure to adhere to the restrictions and conditions of travel applicable to their tickets or for the fraudulent use of those tickets.
NWT Tourism, Air Canada, or their agencies, representatives, Directors, colleagues, direct or indirect family members, or estates will not be responsible for a) technical malfunctions including telephone, computer, or network malfunction, lost/delayed data transmissions, incomplete, incomprehensible, or any erased transmissions; b) communication disruption or other forces beyond the reasonable control of the Sponsors including disruption related to Internet traffic, virus, bug, or non-authorized intervention; or c) damage caused by computer virus or otherwise resulting to any computer from entrant’s access to the NWT Spectacular website. Persons found tampering with or abusing any aspect of the Contest, or whom the Sponsors believes to be causing any malfunction, error, disruption, or damage may be disqualified. Sponsors reserve the right to disqualify any unauthorized Internet entries, including, without limitation: more than one entry per email address, or entries made through robotic, automatic, mechanical, programmed or similar entry duplication method and to disqualify any individual using such a method.
No compensation will be provided due to missed flights, delays, loss of luggage, or health issues related to contest travel, accommodations, meals, other incidents, or acts of unforeseen/ unfortunate circumstance. Winners are responsible for all travel insurance, and required airline travel documentation.
The following are not included in the prize and are the responsibility of the prize winner:
- Any and all costs not expressly described herein including, without limitation, ground transportation, gratuities, merchandise, telephone calls, personal expenses of any nature for overnight layover, meals and beverages, services charges, in-flight meals and entertainments, any checked baggage fees;
- Costs incurred to and from the airport departure point located in one of the contest’s pre-selected cities given the Prize awarded originates and terminates there;
- Obtaining sufficient personal travel insurance prior to departure, if desired or required; and
- Obtaining and carrying all necessary travel documentation, such as passports and visas and complying with customs immigration regulations.
