Getting to the Dehcho

The Dehcho region is linked to British Columbia via Highway 77, which branches off the Alaska Highway near Fort Nelson. At the territorial border, the route becomes Highway 7 (the Liard Trail). Highway 7 connects the communities of Fort Liard and Fort Simpson. Wrigley and Jean Marie River are along Highway 1. The community of Nahanni Butte can be reached from Highway 7 via a private river taxi across the Liard River. As well, Nahanni Butte and Sambaa K’e are seasonally accessible via winter roads.

By Air
Fort Simpson is the region's air hub, with regular service from Yellowknife. From here, small planes can be chartered to smaller communities and into Nahanni National Park Reserve and the surrounding Mackenzie Mountains.
