Paved and well-maintained, the Mackenzie Highway and Highway 3 lead to Behchokǫ̀ and onward to Dettah. All of the other communities in the North Slave are accessible only by air from Yellowknife or, in the case of Gamètı̀, Whatı̀ and Wekweèti, by winter road from Behchokǫ̀.

Fort Nelson, B.C.-Behchokǫ̀: 1,489 kilometres
Behchokǫ̀-Dettah: 117 kilometres

By Air

Yellowknife is the major airport in the region, with direct flights from Ottawa, Calgary, Edmonton, Whitehorse and Iqaluit. Yellowknife is also the starting point for flights to the smaller communities in the North Slave – all but Behchokǫ̀, which is accessible only by road.
