When you are eating out, try a northern specialty. Fresh whitefish, arctic char, lake trout, pike and pickerel are often on the menu. Muskox, bison and caribou are also northern delicacies.
It is easy to reach the Northwest Territories by air from major airports in southern and western Canada. There are direct jet flights to Yellowknife, for example, from Calgary, Edmonton and seasonally, Vancouver. The flight from Edmonton to Yellowknife is about one hour and 20 minutes. From Calgary, the flight is approximately two hours. Jet service is also available from Ottawa via Iqaluit, Nunavut.
Six airlines link the Northwest Territories to connection points in southern Canada: Air Canada Jazz, Canadian North, First Air, Air North, Northwestern Air Lease and WestJet.
Our busiest airport is Yellowknife, which serves as a connection point for flights in the Northwest Territories, and the hub for jet flights from the south.
Getting Around by AirWhether by jet or by floatplane, travel among Northern destinations is part of the fun. | |
