Explore the Wild in Our Parks

If you are seeking a connection with authentic wilderness, the Northwest Territories should be at the top of the list. Here, in an area about the size of France, Spain and Germany combined, is a range of landscapes to suit every taste. We have immense river valleys, raging rivers and quiet streams, mountains where wild sheep and goats can be found, and vast plains and tundra, where bison, caribou and muskoxen still roam untamed.

The parks of the Northwest Territories protect some of our finest scenery and wildlife viewing. In the far north, on the Arctic coast and islands, there are two magnificent National Parks, Tuktut Nogait, home to the Bluenose Caribou, and Aulavik, home to many thousands of muskoxen. Nahanni National Park Reserve and Wood Buffalo National Park are located in the southern Northwest Territories. For more information on our national parks, visit www.pc.gc.ca

The Northwest Territories Government also maintains 34 parks and day use areas, as well as several bird and wildlife sanctuaries. There are more than 20 public and private campgrounds in the Northwest Territories. For campground reservations visit www.campingnwt.ca.
