When you are eating out, try a northern specialty. Fresh whitefish, arctic char, lake trout, pike and pickerel are often on the menu. Muskox, bison and caribou are also northern delicacies.
Sail away to adventure under the midnight sun on our Northwest Territories lakes and rivers. Cruising our waters is a great way to get a feeling for the size and majesty of the North. Our operators will spoil you with northern foods, plenty of northern stories, and show you the wildlife, the historic sites and the great fishing spots.
Choose a harbour cruise at Yellowknife, Hay River or Inuvik with a licenced guide. You can book a cabin-cruiser tour of the Mackenzie Delta from Inuvik. From Hay River, choose a cruiser trip to the headwaters of the Mackenzie River, or a tour on Great Slave Lake with a commercial fisherman. From Fort Simpson, zoom up the North Nahanni River by jet boat.
Yellowknife outfitters offer day and half day tours of Yellowknife Bay, and week-long trips to the spectacular East Arm of Great Slave Lake. Rent a canoe or an inflatable boat and choose your own lake. Tour the Slave River Delta from Fort Resolution, it's a haven for wildlife. Travel with a Dene guide from Lutselk'e through the waters of the magnificent East Arm of Great Slave Lake.
If you have a larger craft in mind, pick a cruise through the Northwest Passage aboard a huge icebreaker, with stops at some of our smaller arctic communities and full on-board guide and orientation services.
And finally, on the lower Mackenzie and Great Bear Rivers, you can often travel from place to place with local families by jet boat. You'll be asked to share the cost of fuel. For information, check with the band office in the community.
