There’s no better way to get a taste of the Western Arctic than spending a Saturday afternoon at Inuvik’s popular summer Arctic Market. Grab some lunch, made with care by a local vendor, before browsing the diverse array of artisanal works, culinary delights and inventive crafts for sale. Shop for local produce grown in the town’s famed greenhouse. Or pick up a pair of moccasins, a piece of traditional bead work, some hand-stitched clothing or made-in-Inuvik kitchenware – and much, much more – from among the many vendors’ tables.
The Arctic Market, held on Saturdays from mid-June to mid-September in Chief Jim Koe Park, is the perfect place to find a souvenir or two of your visit to the Western Arctic. And you may even make a new friend or two.
