Member Blachford Lake Lodge & Wilderness Resort

What began as a “part time fishing lodge” has now become a “full time Aurora Wilderness Lodge” open year round for guests that come from around the world to experience an amazing Wilderness Adventure in Canada’s Northwest Territories.

Our guest facilities include free wireless internet, hot tub, sauna, and Aurora-watch wake-up service.  Unusually for a remote lodge accessible from Yellowknife, our main building includes running hot water and showers, as well as comfortable hotel-style toilets. These log cabins provide a special blend of comfort and adventure, taking you back to the days of the fur-trappers, European pioneers and indigenous peoples who helped make northern Canada the vibrant, yet still timeless place that it is today.

Blachford Lake Lodge & Wilderness Resort has become one of the world’s top Aurora viewing destinations for very good reason. The Eco-initiatives and authentic experiences offered by the lodge are topped off by the best Aurora viewing opportunities on earth. From far and wide, guests travel to Canada’s north to be wow-ed by the hospitality, outdoor experiences, and dazzling skies that the lodge has to offer.

Canoeing and Kayaking

Our canoes and sea kayaks are always available for exploring Blachford Lake. As you silently travel in our northern wilderness, you can hear the calls and perhaps catch sight of loons. Graceful terns, gulls, bald eagles and rough legged hawks soar overhead. Ravens play in the air currents. You may surprise a beaver or young muskrats frolicking in the shallows, startle an otter, or catch a glimpse of a moose browsing the water’s edge. Haul out on a sun-warmed rock for a siesta, or slip into the fresh, clear water for a swim. Before you go paddling, just let our staff know where you are going. They will fit you with a life jacket, or PFD, and we ask you to please wear it when you are out on the water. Please give us a call or visit our website for more information.

Trophy Fishing

We offer trophy sized Lake Trout and Northern Pike! In recent years the winning entries in our Trophy Release Contest were a 38 lb. Lake Trout, and a 32 lb. Northern Pike. Whitefish can be caught in Blachford Lake, and Walleye (around 4 or 5 lb.) can be caught on two of the adjoining lakes that are just a short walk from Blachford Lake.

Hiking Tours

Hikers, walkers and nature enthusiasts alike enjoy our nature trails, in both summer and autumn. These well marked two and four kilometre trails offer views of some of our unique geology, northern plant life and occasionally, our wildlife. The trails lead to a pond created by beavers, and offer views of Long Lake and Blachford Lake. There’s a tiny waterfall at Long Lake. Visitors often pause along the way to take photos, or sketch the scenery and details of the northern landscape. Each season has its pleasures, and in the long days of northern summer, the landscape and flora change almost daily. There’s good reference for what you have discovered in our northern library, in the main lodge. Please give us a call or visit our website for more information.
