Experience the northern lights with a tour that goes with the flow. We’ll pick you up right at your door in our spacious highway coach and head out in search of the best aurora viewing conditions.

When we find a great spot, we’ll settle in and enjoy the show. If the aurora disappears, we’ll get back on the road and chase it down again. We go wherever the aurora decides to take us.

But the aurora is only part of the experience. Your host, Sheldon, brings more than 30 years of experience behind the wheel — along with plenty of stories, laughs and a touch of East Coast humour to make the journey just as memorable as the destination.

Along the way, warm up with Mexican hot chocolate and enjoy the comfort of our heated highway coach, including the convenience of an onboard heated washroom.

At the end of the night, we’ll drop you back off right at your door.

Winter – Aurora Fireside

Our evening begins at our cozy camp anchored to Joliffe Island amongst the houseboat community. Complete with heated and powered facilities (including a washroom) that’s within city limits but surrounded by the beauty of Great Slave Lake.

Gather around the fire, warm up with hot tea, and enjoy bannock on a stick with local jams and syrups as the night settles in. From here, guests can explore nearby trails, snowshoe or hike on Joliffe Island, and take in unique winter views of the houseboats and the famous Snowcastle. Throughout the evening, our guides keep an eye on the skies. When conditions are right, we may venture beyond Yellowknife by vehicle to chase clearer skies and stronger aurora displays, giving you the best chance to experience the northern lights in all their brilliance.

Whether you’re gathered by the fire at basecamp or out exploring the landscape under the stars, you’ll experience the aurora in a relaxed, authentic way. Fall – Aurora Fireside

Experience Naka — the Northern Lights — with a warm campfire, beautiful northern landscapes, and the flexibility to follow the skies when conditions are right.

Your evening begins in Yellowknife before we head out along the Ingraham Trail, or towards the Tłı̨chǫ community of Behchokǫ̀, one of the best ways to experience the natural beauty surrounding the city. We’ll make our way to a scenic day-use area where you can relax around the fire, enjoy hot tea, and take in the peaceful surroundings as the evening settles in.

Our guides will keep a close eye on the skies. When the aurora begins to appear, we’ll take time to get away from artificial lights and find the best viewing opportunities possible. Depending on conditions, we may drive to different areas in search of clearer skies and stronger aurora displays. This experience is about more than simply watching the Northern Lights. It’s about being outside, sharing stories around a fire, enjoying the northern landscape, and experiencing the night at a relaxed pace. As conditions allow, we can incorporate exploring, photography, and other outdoor activities into the evening.

Remote Winter Retreat in Canada’s Aurora Capital Getaway!

Far from roads or city lights, this comfortable backcountry lodge is the perfect setting to enjoy pristine wilderness and watch the Aurora Borealis!

If you’ve never experienced winter in Canada’s great north, you’re in for a treat with this getaway to remote Blachford Lake. Spend your days exploring the 20 km of groomed trails by ski or snowshoe, head out on the lake to try ice fishing or opt for a winter hike to spot northern wildlife. At night, watch the Aurora Borealis dance overhead as you soak in the hot tub or relax on one of the on-site Aurora viewing decks or indoor viewing lounge.

Every stay is unique! Your itinerary may vary depending on weather, Aurora activity, and seasonal conditions making each visit a one-of-a-kind northern adventure. And if you’ve chosen a longer stay, you’ll simply have more time to discover the magic of Blachford Lake Lodge.

Aurora Island

Get ready to see the most spectacular show on earth. Join us on this trip of a lifetime to watch the Aurora Borealis from our private island in Canada’s Northwest Territories.

Aurora Island is the most unique and ideal place to watch the Northern Lights. With pristine waters surrounding our island, the Auroras reflect incredibly. September is the perfect time of year for comfortable viewing. Temperatures are mild, there are few bugs or flies, and the lights shine wildly, even during the blue hour at dusk. Dene Cultural Tours

Step into the heart of the North and connect with the land, people, and traditions that define the Dene Nation. Our Dene Cultural Tour offers a rare opportunity to experience the life of indigenous people through the eyes of the Dene people – rooted in storytelling, land-based practices, and timeless traditions that have been passed down through generations.

Led by local knowledge-holders, this immersive cultural experience walks you in the footsteps of the Dene people. It includes activities like gathering around the fire for stories and knowledge-sharing, taking part in hands-on activities like traditional fishing and trapping, hiking the wilderness terrain, traditional drumming performances, and enjoying a warm traditional meal of Bannock and fresh fish from the Great Slave Lake.

Aurora Bus Tours is a locally owned and operated tour company based in Yellowknife, specializing in Northern Lights viewing experiences. We focus on small to mid-sized group aurora chasing tours that maximize guests’ chances of seeing the lights by actively driving to clearer skies when needed.

Our tours are designed to provide a comfortable, guided, and educational experience. Guests enjoy heated transportation, hot beverages, photography assistance, storytelling about aurora science and Indigenous legends, and personalized support throughout the evening.
