Okpik Arctic Village Summer Package

Summer Okpik Arctic Village Wall Tent

DAY 1

Arrive at the Okpik Arctic Village. Start off by settling into your home away from home. We’ll show you around our Village where you will learn about our local manufacturing and food production programs and why they are so important for Northern food security, economic leakage, as well as providing culturally relevant jobs in the community. You’ll have an opportunity to experience hands on, what it’s like living on the land, mixing traditional knowledge with modern science. After this, enjoy a locally harvested and prepared lunch. After lunch, your local guide will take you on a hike along the trapline, where you will experience the beautiful surroundings of the Mackenzie River Delta while learning about hunting and trapping in the Arctic. When you return, you can enjoy a locally harvested and prepared dinner at our camp. We offer a variety of traditional accommodations, giving the guests an option to sleep in a tipi, wall tent, sod house or cabin.

DAY 2

Wake up and enjoy some delicious breakfast. After breakfast, your local guide will take you on a Mackenzie River Delta boat tour. We’ll stop at a few locations along the way, where guests will help check fish nets for the catch of the day, and forage on the tundra for traditional summer food from the land such as plants and berries. Return and enjoy a locally harvested and prepared lunch at our camp. After lunch a local Elder will teach visitors how to prepare a delicious dinner, using ingredients that are harvested from the land that morning. Enjoy the dinner prepared by the group using local ingredients. Guests will again have the option to sleep in a tipi, wall tent, sod house or cabin.

DAY 3

On the last morning at our Eco-Village, guests will learn how traditional clothing and handicrafts are made, in addition to learning how hides are tanned and how meat and fish is dried. After enjoying a lunch of seasonally available traditional food, guests of Tundra North Tours are free for the afternoon at the Arctic Eco-Village. You’ll have the option to take a canoe or kayak out on the lake or river; explore trails on the surrounding tundra; or get your hands dirty by joining in one of our farming and harvesting programs. Guides will be available to help you get involved in these optional activities and answer any last minute questions. Finally, as the trip comes to an end, guests will travel by boat from the Arctic Eco-Village back to Inuvik along the Mackenzie River.
