Boat Tour to the Arctic Ocean And Pingos
Take in the stunning Western Arctic landscape by boat in our tour to the Pingos, a Canadian National landmark, surrounded by the Arctic Ocean. This tour includes a guided tour on the Mackenzie River to the mouth of the Arctic Ocean, a picnic at the Pingos with grilled locally caught fish and local foods, and plenty of wildlife viewing along the way.
You will begin in the community of Inuvik, where your Indigenous guide, Enoch Pokiak, will welcome you and ensure your safety on board his Lowe aluminum boat. He will provide you with more information on the region as you coast along the Mackenzie River. Enjoy the breathtaking landscape that surrounds you and make sure you have your camera ready to capture the moment!
As you reach the mouth of the Arctic Ocean, you pass by 20 miles of water where if you are lucky, you might glimpse beluga whales.
You will be taken to the best spot at a pingo where you will enjoy a picnic. Your guide will cook local whitefish or inconnu fish over the fire. Also on the menu are local foods, such as moose ribs, muktuk, and freshly brewed locally foraged tea (made available upon request). Enjoy the storytelling from your guide as you take in the stunning landscape.
We will boat past East White Fish Station traditional whaling camps and onto the Hamlet of Tuktoyaktuk, NT. Where upon request, Enoch’s Auntie Eileen will pick you up from the dock in Tuktoyaktuk Harbor. You will also stop at the community of Tuktoyaktuk, where you can shop for local arts and crafts.
Please note that Eileen sets her own rates at $70.00 per person. This tour is not included in any of PPAA packages.
After an exciting day, you will return to the boat for a trip back to Inuvik.
We can accommodate a maximum of 5 guests and require a minimum of 3 guests.
