Explore the industrial history of the Sahtu at the Norman Wells Historical Society/Centre. This lovingly curated museum showcases the multifaceted events that shaped this region. Colourful military vehicles from the building of the legendary Canol road sit bumper-to-bumper in the yard — the same vehicles that helped deliver oil and troops from Norman Wells through the Yukon to Alaska during World War II. Inside, you’ll find memorabilia from when the oil boom began nearly a century ago, as well as displays on Mackenzie River shipping, barging and local Sahtu Culture. Depending on current supply you will also find a gift shop with an array of hand crafted traditional treasures like stunning moosehide moccasins, beautifully beaded pursues,  and hand carved walking sticks, worthy of an exhibit in itself.
