Your Home in the Arctic

The Arctic Chalet can offer  you a variety of accommodations to suit your needs.  We are conveniently located just 3 kilometres from the center of town on the edge of a tranquil lake surrounded by forests and indigenous flowers and plants. In this beautiful natural setting you can experience the real feel of the north. Here you are also away from city lights that can interfere with viewing the spectacular northern lights – the Aurora Borealis.  And best of all  here you can hear the occasional howling of our White Huskies that want to meet you and welcome you to the North.

Our two-story log home offers two nice guest rooms with a shared kitchenette and bath on the upper level. Our Lakeview Room has a queen bed and a single bed and has a private covered balcony with a great view over the property and the lake. The Family Room has a queen bed and two single beds and a small covered balcony. The entire upstairs is for guests only while our own living quarters are on the main floor and are totally separate for your privacy and ours. Come and go as you wish anytime of the day or night.

Our historic log cabins which were among the first cabins to be built in Inuvik have now been renovated to modern standards and are nice and comfortable. Beds are decked with down duvets and other quilts. All cabins have electricity, running water and have access to wireless internet. Most have TV’s. Gwich’in Territorial Campground (Gwich’in Territorial Park)

Enjoy the spectacular shoreline of Campbell Lake, try your luck fishing, hike in search of unique rocks and fossils, or hit the beach for a swim above the Arctic Circle. These are just a few of the options available at Gwich’in Territorial Campground, about 30 kilometres south of Inuvik on the Dempster Highway. The campground includes 15 non-powered campsites and four tent sites, washrooms, drinking water, a kitchen shelter and a boat launch.

 

Vadzaih Van Tshik Campground (Gwich’in Territorial Park)

Nestled on the side of Caribou Creek approxiumately 40 kilometres north of Tsiigehtchic on the Dempster Highway, Vadzaih Van Tshik Campground is well-protected from the elements by the steep cliffs nearby. Birds of prey glide high above, while kingfishers are occasionally seen skimming the water – and sometimes you’ll see peregrine falcons nesting. This campground features washrooms, a picnic/day-use area, and a kitchen shelter.

 

Jàk Territorial Park

Just outside Inuvik, this park features an observation tower with excellent views of the surrounding scenery and prime bird-watching. Watch for falcons, eagles and ducks, our summer residents. There is an abundance of cranberries, blueberries and cloudberries that give the park its name. The campground offers six powered and 32 non-powered sites, washrooms and showers, drinking water, a kitchen shelter and picnic area, trails, interpretive displays and helpful staff.
