Folk on the Rocks
Every third weekend in July for over 40 years, a diverse lineup of musical acts from North, South and beyond gather on the sandy shores of Yellowknife’s scenic Long Lake to bring you Folk on the Rocks — the coolest Canadian music festival north of 60!
The three-day event has grown into one of Canada’s top summertime music and cultural festivals. Set in a natural amphitheatre, the breathtaking site provides the backdrop for six stages of live music, workshops, a cultural area, and a beer garden—all under the lure of the midnight sun.
It all kicks off on Friday night with “Warm the Rocks,” where musicians play at various venues throughout downtown Yellowknife. Between the following Saturday and Sunday, more than 4,000 visitors will come to Long Lake to listen to the music, take in the scenery and enjoy the most anticipated weekend of the year.
Folk on the Rocks’ unique mix of exclusively Canadian musical acts—50 per cent Northern artists and 50 per cent “Southern” acts from south of the 60th Parallel. The lineup results in a culturally diverse program for both artists and audiences to experience. In between the performances, there are plenty of delicious eats on-site, or you can take a refreshing dip in Long Lake’s cool, clean waters. It all culminates with a giant drum dance under the midnight sun, led on by the YK Dene Drummers.

Located on the shore of Great Slave Lake, the 5th largest in North America, and a short walk from Pilots Monument, where a great panorama of the city can be enjoyed. During the winter months, the Inn’s lakeside location provides the dark skies desired for viewing the awe-inspiring northern lights. Each of the Inn’s suites has lake views and access to the dock and property, allowing guests to enjoy the natural environment without sacrificing proximity to the city. Additionally, guests can enjoy a conveniently located, independently owned and operated Flamecraft Grill ‘N’ Chill restaurant, located on the ground floor of the main building. The restaurant is currently open for lunch and dinner from 11am to 9pm (10pm on Fridays and Saturdays), 7 days a week.
Conveniently close to downtown and only 12 minutes from the airport, we are located in the unique and eclectic neighborhood of Old Town. Old Town has plenty to offer for those looking for art, water-recreation, food, shopping, culture and scenic lookouts. There is plenty to do and see right outside the front door of the Aurora Bayside Inn!

River Bend Motel
River Bend Motel, nestled in the picturesque landscapes of northern Canada, offers a tranquil retreat for travelers seeking comfort and serenity. Our charming motel has eight spacious rooms and provides a cozy home away from home feel. The rooms provide satellite internet, Roku television as well as a kitchenette stocked with the tools you need to prepare meals. Each room also has its own private bathroom. For convenience we offer $10 shuttle service to and from the airport or if needed we do offer truck rentals as well.
