Frozen Aurora

Welcome to Blachford Lodge.

Snow-blanketed landscapes, crackling fires, and aurora-filled nights. Winter and early Spring is a magical time to experience the serene beauty of the Northwest Territories. From January through April, Blachford Lodge offers a front-row seat to the season’s quiet wonders. Guests can cozy up in warm teepees, watch the northern lights dance across the night sky, and embrace peaceful days in the pristine winter wilderness.

Flights:

When booking your flights in/out of Yellowknife, please ensure that you arrive in Yellowknife the night before the charter flight departure to the lodge.

  • Flights to/from Yellowknife and BLL operate between 8:00am and 2:00pm

Please check with us prior to booking your departing flight from Yellowknife.

Because at times both scheduled and charter flights may experience delays, we do not recommend booking a flight from Yellowknife prior to 5:00 pm MT.

All Packages Include:

  • Flight seeing charter Yellowknife – Blachford – Yellowknife
  • Lodge or cabin accommodation
  • Housekeeping
  • Welcome orientation
  • Yoga equipment
  • Aurora Watch service nightly (until 03:00 am)
  • Handicraft workshop in the lodge
  • Igloo/Quinzhee building (condition dependent)
  • Introduction and hints about aurora photography
  • Use of seasonal equipment (cross country skis, snowshoes, groomed 2-6k trails, fat tire bikes, firepits, skates, ice fishing gear)
  • Welcome Drink on arrival

  • Two guided experiences daily

  • Winter clothing rental (available – just ask!)

Activities:

Winter outdoor activities include cross-country skiing on 20 kilometers of groomed trails, snowshoeing, ice skating, ice fishing, spruce salve making, dream catcher making, fat-biking, kick-sledding and snowmobile tours (at an additional charge). Strap on your snowshoes, or stick to your winter boots and try to spot some northern wildlife. Spend your evenings relaxing relax in our cozy lounge areas, relax in the sauna, or kick back in our hot tub while watching the Aurora dance overhead.  

Please Note:

  • Prices are quoted and payable in Canadian dollars. Please add 5% Goods and Services Tax and 10% gratuities to the base rate.
  • A deposit of 50% of the total package price is required to confirm your booking. 
  • The balance will be due 60 days prior to arrival. 
  • We accept direct deposit, e-Transfer, Bank Draft, credit card via Flywire, or wire transfer

Cancellation Policy:

  • Deposit is refundable until 61 days prior to arrival with the exception of an administration fee of $1000.
  • 60-0 days prior to departure, trip is non-refundable.

Northern Lights at Lac La Martre Adventures

Experience the Northern Lights far from the crowds, on a remote lake, and accessible by floatplane from Yellowknife.

Join us in September at Lac La Martre Adventures for an intimate 3-night Aurora getaway that blends northern lights viewing, guided fishing, and time to unwind on the land.

A 55-minute floatplane flight brings you to Lac La Martre Adventures, where you’ll settle into a quiet, remote cabin, surrounded by crystal clear waters and cozy amenities. Days are yours to shape—head out on the water with an experienced guide, paddle along the shoreline, walk the island trails, or simply slow down. As night falls, gather by the fire or step outside your cabin to watch the Northern Lights move across the sky.

A Note on the Experience

This is a small, remote lodge experience with limited capacity (maximum 20 guests). It’s best suited for guests looking to disconnect, spend time on the land, and experience the North in a more personal and unhurried way.
